Break in Your Shaving Brush

Break in Your Shaving Brush

New year, new grooming routine, and maybe a new shaving brush?

If you’re new to wet-shaving or not quite sure how to properly prepare and care for your shaving brush, we have some quick tips!

Soak Your Brush – Pre-Shaving

For both natural bristles brushes, you’ll need to soften the bristles to ensure you whip up a rich, luscious lather. Soak natural bristles in warm warm for a 2-3 minutes. Hot water will damage bristles so it’s essential that the water is warm, not hot. Soak only the bristles as water can cause damage to the handle, especially if it is wood. Shake off any excess water and you’re ready to start lathering!

Synthetic bristle brushes don’t require as much soaking time. Gently soak them under warm water, shake off any excess water and start lathering!

Clean Your Brush – Post Shaving

As important as it is to soak your brush before each shave, it’s equally as important to rinse and clean your brush, every single time it’s used.

A quick rise to remove excess cream or soap is vital to maintaining the integrity of the brus. This also prevents build up from forming at the base which can compromise the knot. Once the brush is rinsed, allow it to airdry either by hanging it on a stand to dry or allow it to airdry on a flat surface or countertop.
